At Garden State Bone and Joint Specialists, our goal is simple: to return our patients to normal function as quickly and safely as possible. To reach our goal, we enlist a comprehensive, leading edge approach to the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.
We use a multi-disciplinary approach for the evaluation and management of musculoskeletal disorders. Initial treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation. Your physician will take the time to evaluate your condition and will ensure that you understand your diagnosis completely. Based on your evaluation, you may undergo X-ray imaging on the spot or have a more complex imaging session scheduled (e.g. MRI or CT scan). Either way, a specific course of treatment will be determined based on your goals. Recommended treatment may involve conservative therapies such as medications, injections, and physical therapy. For many patients, conservative treatment and rehabilitation options are highly successful. Alternatively, some disorders may require surgical intervention. Either way, you are an active participant in the process.
Surgery may either be open (traditional) or arthroscopic. Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique where small incisions are made at the shoulder, elbow, knee, or ankle. When compared with traditional open surgical procedure, arthroscopic techniques involve less trauma to the muscles which allows for better joint stability and for a quicker, less painful recovery. Minimally invasive procedures also enable physicians to perform many procedures on an outpatient basis. Where necessary and to optimize patient outcomes, open procedures may be performed, including joint replacement and fracture fixation.
Modern medical advances have made it possible for most of our patients to have elective surgery and return home the same day. Through our affiliation with Raritan Bay Medical Center, we are able to perform outpatient procedures at a top-notch surgical facility with excellent nursing care. There is also an extended recovery area on site where a patient may stay for 23 hours following surgery before going home. This alternative to overnight hospitalization is both affordable and convenient for our patients. Following surgery, treatment is usually continued with rehabilitation, which is the key to successful functional outcomes and pain relief. Your post-operative rehabilitation is closely monitored by your physician throughout the entire recuperation period.
